Sound can bring the simple film scene to LIFE! Sound effects can make it funny, dramatic or scary and trick the audience into seeing something that isn’t there! Our StarTime filmmakers will reveal the magic of “Foley” – the art of creating film sound effects. Learn how to create an action fight scene safely using sound effects. Create the sound of a laser with a slinky or trampoline spring. A skidding car using balloons or the sound of an octopus by using cooked pasta! You will film your own action scene with your iPad/iphone camera and then in imovie, record sounds that best bring this action to life!

You will need:
Tools: • iPad with iMovie https://apps.apple.com/au/app/imovie/id377298193 • iPhone / iPad headphones set (If possible but not essential- can be wired or bluetooth) Sound effects materials: (you don’t need all but the more you have the more sounds you will be able to make.) • Cooked pasta in a bowl with water • Balloons • Spatula and baking tray • Cornstarch in leather or plastic pouch • Celery , bok choy or carrots • Tomato

Can you balance, juggle and twirl? StarTime’s Circus Skills session will show you how. Using household items from toothbrushes, to socks and plastic bags, our performers will show you the techniques to practice and wow family and friends! Be prepared to focus, commit and you’ll be able to juggle and twirl in no time. We’ll also show you ways to put on your own circus act and have the opportunity to present live on the StarTime Live show.

• New or Old toothbrushes • Plastic bags • 1 x pair of long socks • 3 x shorter socks • 1 x packet of lentils or similar • 1 small sized cushion • Optional: Crazy hat / costume

Stop Motion is used in some of the biggest movies like the LEGO movie and Wallace and Grommit. Learn the art using household objects.

Stop Motion Animation

Inspired by films like Wallace & Gromit and the Lego films, kids will learn how to create a simple stop motion animation film using household objects. They will be set a task to do in their own time using plasticine and green card, which they can share online in the follow up session one week later, when they will learn more to further their skills in stop motion animation.

You will need:
This workshop is designed to be used with iOS devices, but the Stop Motion Studio app will also work on an Android device, unfortunately we’re unable to provide support for those participants who choose to use an Android device. Beats and rhythm is at the heart of all music. Language is music and beatboxing allows us to explore the creativity inherent in our own voices. In this workshop, kids will get to explore the music they can create with their own vocal instruments. It’s not only fun but gives children confidence in developing their language skills. Once we learn and build on the basics we’ll use apps to create loops and present to the group if you choose.
