Shrove Tuesday: Pancake Ideas

What is Pancake Day?

Also known as Shrove Tuesday, Pancake Day always falls 47 days before Easter Sunday. Given that Easter Sunday is determined by lunar cycles, the date of Pancake Day changes every year.

Lent was a time when Christians fasted to remember the time Jesus Christ spent 40 days and 40 nights fasting in the desert. Pancake Day is typically a day of indulgence prior to the 40-day fast and the ingredients used to make pancakes (i.e. milk, eggs, sugar) are not consumed during Lent. This is also a day for penance for Christians, hence the word, shrove (‘shriven’ from sins before the beginning of Lent).
